As I continue to update and add content to The Bob Pike Group's new site I am finding it difficult to figure out what topics are most useful for you to read about, so I am asking you to fill out a short form and tell me what topics you would like to see posted on our site as resources for you. If we do not have articles already published on your topic it will be put on our e-Zine list to be written, published and posted in the near future. Motivation plays a significant role in the school experience of students, regardless of their age or grade. Teachers may lament the apparent absence of motivation to learn in students who fail to do their schoolwork or do it poorly. It's not unusual for such a student to be characterized as "unmotivated." But is he?
Use seven matchsticks to figuratively light creative fires and see things in a new "light" in this activity.
Sample Standard: Plot points in the coordinate plane Grade Level: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I Time: 20 minutes Materials: Pre-printed coordinate plane for each student Colored pencils Group size: Any Purpose: To use during a unit on coordinate planes as a revisiter.
Sample Standard: Locate, describe and explain places, regions and features on the earth. Grade level: 4 Time: 10-15 minutes Materials: Globe or world map for every two students, PowerPoint slides with clues (use a build so that the previous clues remain on the screen as the next new clue is revealed.) Group Size: Any. Divide students into partners. Purpose: The purpose of this activity is for students to find the secret location (region/country/state/city/etc.) on a globe or map from the geographic clues that are given.
